HAPPY
Happy doesn't really cut it. Joyful. Thankful. Bewildered. Surprised. Relieved.
It hasn't fully sunk in yet.
This has been an odd week.
Monday.
I'm in a great mood. Excited to go to the second taiko class. Having a great night. Then... I hit a pothole on the way to class. My car dies in the left lane just past the 35W ramp entering 94E. Completely and utterly dies. Nothing. Nada. Thank you to J. and the nice woman on the insurance company switchboard because I was In a Full-Fledged Freak Out Panic. Semis are huge. You never realize just how huge 'til you're stuck sticking halfway out in the fast lane with no hazard lights on a shaking bridge.
The tow truck driver was very kind, however, and even gave me a ride home for free. Very nice man. Thank you!
Tuesday.
M & A kindly help me get my car (and feed me awesome dinner!). After towing and repairs... well. It's enough. I wonder if this is some sort of sign, so many difficult things have happened since I've returned to Minnesota. Confusion. I go to the Tea Garden to use the internet and call the boy. And then..... my laptop dies. Blue screen of death with an error message that takes up the entire screen. Unplug and restart. Dies again. Repeat 6 times out of sheer disbelief. Finally, give up and go home.
At home, I try once again to use the laptop. Miraculously, it works. I give in and pay for the crappy Minneapolis public wireless connection. Call the boy. Log into gmail. And.......... discover the message from InKAS. My first reaction? To cry. Ha. Funny, eh?
J. said today that I've been like a rubber ducky, "floating on a tidal wave... it washes over... and you pop up."
awesome image. she is super kewl.
i feel for the rubber duckies of the world. i am so very thankful for the ebb and flow of the waves, of the world, of life. it's funny how life seems to give you just what you can handle, then pile on a little more, then a little more, then a little more, until you want to collapse or cry or sleep for 400 years. and yet, in the face of all that, we endure. (most of the time. you can only push rubber duckies so far before they spring a leak and sink to the bottom of the ocean, filled to the brim with salty regrets and missed opportunities.)
There's more to the story, mostly concerning uncomfortable, non-related events that happened at work the last two weeks, but it will have to wait for another post. Bedtime.

Congratulations! That's awesome. :) I was telling my mother last night that you've been having a hard time of it, so she'll be happy to hear that this is working out. Will you be in Seoul? What will you study? Are you still going to tutor? When are you leaving? Giant Geek Girl needs ALL the details....
Wow! Congrats! I second melinite's questions... And love the rubber ducky image. I don't think you're the type of rubber ducky that springs a leak and sinks to the bottom of the ocean filled with salty regrets, however. You're the kind that will eventually find its way to the soft sandy beach, a little faded but still boasting those bright happy eyes and big rubber ducky grin- amazed at what a wicked awesome ride it's just been on.

dude i am the worst blogger ever. to answer both of your questions.... yes, in Seoul, at Sogang University. Am studying Korean language, from 9-1, M-F. Yes, am hoping to tutor. Actually, am hoping to get a part-time job in a classroom setting, 'cuz I really like classroom teaching, and then tutor as well on the side. Have to be back by August 26 for orientation, so I think I will leave after Mom's b-day on the 22nd. Will probably go the 23rd or 24th. ^^ EXCITED!!!!!!!!
happy birthday sarah!
Heather
