hot mint
Yesterday during the 15-minute break during class, I ate leftover bibimbap with lots of red pepper paste (gochujung). My breath was pretty horrible. When I went back to class, I popped a mini-Altoid and offered one to each of the four students in class. They were excited and gladly took a mint. After about 20 seconds, their smiles suddenly disappeared. One started coughing. One turned bright red. Another inhaled hard and choked. The last, tears in her eyes, frantically waved her hand over her mouth and said "Teacher! Hot! Very hot!"
I offered water; they refused. I offered time to go to the bathroom; they refused. I offered candy to take away the taste; they accepted. ~lol~
Thank god they were mini-Altoids and not full-blown full-sized full-of-eye-watering-mouth-puckering-take-that-MINT Altoids.
p.s. i can read korean characters now! well. sort of. i sound like a drunk monkey in slow motion, sounding out one syllable at a time. and, of course, i don't know what anything means. but it's a start. joy.

Hey, you finally found a way to get rid of the candy! :) Guess you won't have to worry about running out of Altoids.
I tried the online Rosetta Stone demo for French and thought it was neat and that I did pretty good, and picked up the language without too much trouble. I thought hey I could learn a language to keep my mind exercised. Then I tried the Rosetta Stone demo for Korean. Wow I think I threw out my mind. I am now rethinking my mental exercise plan. You may sound like a drunken monkey but you are doing really good.
ah the power of altoids - not to be underestimated!! now if you need to discipline any of em, you can make em eat a mint!

That's so funny. I brought a few kinds of American candy with me to Ireland a few years back. I gave some Pop Rocks to a cute little boy I met named Cian (Keen). He was a little freaked out by them. I don't think he ate more than the first fizzy bite. Then we gave him some sour cherry gels and his eyes got really wide and he said "Oh, these are quite lovely". It was just adorable to hear a little boy call candy "quite lovely."
Hope all is well!
melinite ~ *lol* now i have to buy tons and tons of candy to keep the candy beasts fulfilled.
nancy ~ i'm using a combination of the demo from rosetta stone and a book another teacher gave me. am hoping to buy the rosetta stone program after my next paycheck. *grin* the online demo is really helpful so far. i need to work on my discipline, though. i had a dream the other night where i was trying to read korean, but every word i saw was in english. uh-oh!
jen ~ *lol* torture by burning hot mint! i love it!
belgiumite77 ~ oh dude, that sounds hilarious! pop rocks are so weird. i think my kids here would freak too. hope all is well at home!!!
