photos

taking break from transcribing. (NEVER AGAIN. did i mention that?)

have been hankering to take photos lately. i miss it fiercely, as Fred, a past student, would say.

am using this photo from the fire festival on Jeju-do as my desktop background at work right now:

i really love that photo. it looks like one page of a story, frozen in time. what are they thinking? will they continue flying their kite? what are they looking at? what will they do?

photos tell such awesome stories. lovely. silly. horrifying. sad. every emotion, captured and stilled.

there's a terrifying one right now with an NYTimes story about anti-immigrant violence in South Africa. gods. it must be really difficult to be a photojournalist sometimes. how can you take photos and not help?

well. here are some of my favorites from from the last few years. just for kicks. i've got to get out with the camera soon and find some stories here in the cities.

Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia. July 2007. Gathering lilies in the moat.

Vang
Vieng, Laos. November 2007. Walking to the Sunset Bar.

A Hmong village on a mountain-top near Luang Prabang, Laos. November 2007. Watching a game.

Halong Bay, Vietnam. November 2007. Beautiful day.

Chinatown, New York City. June 2007. Bubble blowing.

Lake of the Isles, Minneapolis, MN, USA. June 2007. Zen duck.

stress

do you know people who handle stress well? can you introduce me? ~lol~ i am stressed out. too many things happening at once.

maybe that was part of why i was so much happier in korea. i wasn't stressed out as often as here. hrm.

am going to try to post more photos. 'cuz i like photos. so there.

here's a gigantic alligator we saw in the Florida Everglades back in March.

doesn't he look happy? comfortable. cool. enjoying his day.

we should all be gigantic alligators, basking in the sun to keep up our body temp.

well.

unless, of course, it's all a sham to lure innocent, portable, delectable dinners within eating range. sure, looks peaceful and log-like on the outside, but just wait. get too close, and SNAP. GULP.

supper time.

venting.

corporate executives are too cool for school.

they're so cool they can't even push in their chairs or drop their coffee cups in the trash on the way out the door.

i guess they're too busy making money.

or something.

did you know Korea is roughly the size of Minnesota?

AWESOME tutorial on korea, korean history, & language. http://korean.sogang.ac.kr/

i applied for school yesterday. Sogang University. fall 2008 term, 20 hrs/wk. i hope they still have available spots. if they're full, i'll apply for the winter term. it sounds like sogang is the place to study if you want to focus on conversation. once you reach an intermediate level, you can join campus clubs & activities. it's located in my favorite neighborhood in seoul. ^^

p.s. am temping now. i make almost as much as a first year teacher in poorer school districts to answer phones; bring people coffee; open cellophane bags of treats for kids, throw away the stale licorice, and retie a ribbon on the bag...... there's something wrong here.
